Sight & Sound’s Best Indie Animation of 2016

A great to start 2017, as two projects that I have been immersed in for some time were selected for Sight & Sound’s best indie animation round-up. BFI National Archive Animation Curator Jez Stewart chose award-winning short Johnno’s Dead by Chris Shepherd as one of his five gems from 2016, and Animate Projects’ Silent Signal art & science project was bestowed with an honourable mention.

Looking back at 2016 there were other notable moments for Silent Signal (in addition to its 6 exhibitions and 36 events) as boredomresearch were presented with the Lumen Prize Moving Image Award for AfterGlow, and Samantha Moore’s Loop won second prize for Professional Documentary (Under 10 Minutes) at Raw Science Film Festival, and also received a special mention at FAFF 2016.
