The Debutante
Producer
A spirited young woman persuades a hyena from London Zoo to take her place at a dinner dance held in her honour. Their plan requires a surprising amount of artistry and violence. Based on a story by artist Leonora Carrington, Elizabeth Hobbs celebrates her startling tale with paint and collage.
World premiere at Annecy Festival 2022. Awards include: Best Short Film, British Animation Awards 2024; Grand Prix, the Golden Pegasus, at ANIMATOR Festival 2022; the Grand Prize for the Short Film International Competition at the Bucheon International Animation Festival (BIAF) 2022; Animated Short Jury Award at SXSW 2023; Lab Special Jury Prize at the 45th Clermont-Ferrand International Short Film Festival; Ellen Jury Award and the Animation Award, Aspen Shortsfest 2023; and Silver Méliès at San Sebastian Horror and Fantasy Film Festival 2022. Shortlisted for the Animated Short Film Award at the 95th Academy Awards.
